Kanye West’s upcoming album isn’t the only reason why he’s saying the word “swish.” The rapper recently nailed an impromptu performance at American Idol‘s San Francisco stop. With the support of his wife, Kim Kardashian, Ye took the stage to perform his 2005 hit single “Gold Digger.”
“My name is Kanye. I’m from the south side of Chicago … originally a producer. I always wanted to rap and nobody really believed in me,” he told the judges. Before revealing the song’s title, he hinted that it “has one of the judges’ names in it.” He rapped a snippet of the record, which originally featured Jamie Foxx, and ended up leaving with a golden ticket to Hollywood.
Ye is currently prepping the release of his Yeezus follow-up. Pusha T shared details about the highly anticipated album during an interview with Rolling Stone. “I haven’t worked on it at all, but everything I’ve heard is phenomenal,” he told the publication. “He’s super meticulous about the messaging about his album but you guys are in for a treat.”
With no word on the release date of Kanye West’s forthcoming work, now’s the best time to revisit old classics. Take a look at his performance of “Gold Digger” below.
