Sia’s onto something with her upcoming album. Titled This Is Acting, the LP includes songs she originally penned for other artists. And despite the fact that these records were rejected, it’s not because they aren’t good. “Reaper” is in fact great.
“Don’t come for me today/ I’m feeling good,” Sia sings before the chorus rings in, “You came to take me away/ So close I was to heaven’s gates but no baby, no baby, not today.” The lyrics, which were co-written by Kanye West are dark and inspirational. “Reaper” gets brought to life by the Chicago rapper’s fun, booming production.
“I’m not emotionally attached to it,” she told Rollingstone . “It’s a good, fun song, but I didn’t anticipate it being on the record.” In the same interview, she revealed that “Reaper” was initially written for Rihanna. Sia nails her fellow singer’s sound just as she did with “Alive,” which was meant for Adele’s 25. “I feel like they’re hits, but nobody wanted them,” she said.
This Is Acting is due out on January 29. Earlier this week, she unveiled a different photo for each song on the album. Sticking to the LP’s theme, the pictures show the titles displayed on different marquees around the world.
