There are two burning questions in the world of MMA. When is the next time Conor McGregor is going to fight? When is the next time Holly Holm is going to fight? As it turns out, the UFC is getting ready to announce that both of those things will happen on the same night.
According to various reports, UFC 197, taking place on March 5th in Las Vegas, is scheduled to have both UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm and UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor in action on the same night. In McGregor’s last fight, the sport’s biggest star shockingly knocked out former UFC featherweight champion and one of the greatest fighters of all time, Jose Aldo, in a mere 13 seconds. Moreover, McGregor will be moving up in weight class and challenging the UFC lightweight champion, taking on Rafael dos Anjos. If he were to defeat Anjos, McGregor states that he has no plans to vacate the featherweight championship, and he wants to defend both belts and fight four times a year.
“Conor has said that he would like to win the 155-pound belt and fight four times a year and defend both belts,” UFC President Dana White said on UFC Tonight. “If anybody can do it, Conor McGregor can. This guy has pretty much done everything he said he would do. I’m interested.”
On the other hand, the last time we saw Holm in action she was kicking the head off of formerly undefeated champion Ronda Rousey in one of the most shocking upsets in combat sports history. According to reports, Holm’s next opponent will be Miesha Tate, the only other bantamweight fighter who has taken Ronda Rousey to her limit.
If everything goes according to plan, get your popcorn ready on March 5th.
