DC rapper Wale has been unleashing new tunes since 2015’s fourth quarter, and has yet to let up. A run that seemingly started back in September has continued into the New Year with a ton of loosies (“Spoiled“) and freestyles including the STASHED-premiered “Legit Boss” and “Absolutely Perfect” featuring Smoke DZA. Now, just a day after debuting the latter, Wale returns with a freestyle titled “Powerball.”
The hype surrounding the nation’s current billion-dollar jackpot is inescapable, and has everyone making plans—the MMG artist included. “What would you do with it?” he questions at the start of his latest offering, later answering with “I’ll blow the sh*t in one day, hoe.” But it’s not in the way most would assume.
Wale’s words, and his skill at storytelling, have always had the power to strike a chord. We wouldn’t be surprised if these were the qualities that landed him on stage at the White House as an opening act for President Obama’s Union Address. In addition to performing “Chillin'” and “LoveHate Thing,” he hinted at a brand-new album.
“My name is Wale. My fifth album, Shine, 2016.” This album will be a follow-up to his 2015 offering, The Album About Nothing.
