The Star Wars phenomenon is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Following the huge success of The Force Awakens, Rick Rubin, also referred to as musical Yoda, is crafting a totally rad compilation album aptly titled Star Wars Headspace. Featuring the likes of Flying Lotus, Baauer, GTA, Kaskade, Rubin and sci-fi mastermind himself, J.J. Abrams, the album will incorporate famous Star Wars soundbites into new music.
Earlier today, Zane Lowe premiered three tracks from the album on his Beats 1 show, including Flying Lotus’ “R2 Where R U?,” Baauer’s “Cantina Boys,” and Rubin’s “NR-G7.” Flying Lotus also spoke with Zane about how the project came to be and how the folks behind Star Wars got involved. “I think all this kind of started with Rick Rubin. He kind of handpicked all the people he wanted to be part of this thing. And I’m just flattered to be involved in this thing. At the same time, it makes sense. I just feel close to these sounds,” he said. “Just don’t sample any John Williams music. Don’t mess with that John Williams though!”
