Even though Netflix’s political drama debuts its fourth season March 4, there haven’t been any substantial House of Cards trailers to promote its arrival. Sure, we’ve gotten a handful of foreboding teasers, but nothing to indicate where the story’s headed and how things will play out between President Frank Underwood and his now estranged wife Claire. But that all changes with the trailer we’ve all been waiting for ever since the new season was announced.
At the tail end of season three, things fell apart between Frank and Claire, which ended with Claire walking out and leaving a conflicted Frank alone during a critical point in his campaign. The rift between the two will pose a very serious threat for his candidacy, and based on what we see here, things don’t get any better at home. “You have no idea what it means to have nothing. You don’t value what we have achieved. I have had to fight for everything my entire life!,” Frank says with aggression.
The trailer is packed with intensity, with the divide between Frank and Claire serving at a catalyst for all the terrible things to come. “I saw a future, our future.” Claire says at the trailer’s end. Followed by a frank reply from her husband, “We had a future until you started destroying it.”
By the way, I’m totally here for Neve Campbell and Joel Kinnaman joining the madness.
