When Miguel revisited his Wildheart album last month, it was at a perfect time. Kanye West was experiencing second (and third) thoughts about his project Swish, and changed the album title to Waves. Within hours of this happening, Miguel fans were treated to a ravishing Travis Scott-assisted remix of the crooner’s song of the same name.
There’s no denying “waves” ranks as one of Wildheart‘s highlights. Its sensual hook, which captures Miguel’s seductive line “I wanna ride that wave,” and tempting verses get an extra boost from La Flame’s tailored bars. “Right now I might pull up on you with my surfboard like I’m Kelly Slater,” he says, referencing Baywatch.
“I shroud a lot of my songs in love and lust because I know those things are relatable, and people can take them at face value, and that’s OK. But more often than not, my conversations about love and lust are directly related to my dreams,” said Miguel in an interview with Pitchfork.
Wildheart was released last summer. The project features Kurupt and Lenny Kravitz. Since its debut, he joined Mac Miller on GO:OD AM and ASAP Rocky on “Everyday.”
Fans can catch Miguel at the Governors Ball this June.
