Has the booking for WrestleMania 32 got you a little limp? Is the Undertaker vs. Shane McMahon not exactly doing it for you? Is the eventual Roman Reigns “overcoming the odds” story making you feel a little…blah? Well, here’s a little something that could wet your WrestleMania whistle. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that former NXT Champion Sami Zayn is currently scheduled for a match at WrestleMania.
Zayn isn’t only just one of the most-beloved wrestlers on NXT, but also legitimately one of the most enthralling babyfaces in all of wrestling. Zayn has made two appearances on the main roster in the past, answering John Cena’s US Title Open Challenge and an appearance at this year’s Royal Rumble, eventually eliminating his long-time rival Kevin Owens.
Zayn and Owens’ rivalry dates back way before the two even stepped foot in a WWE ring, when they were known throughout the independent wrestling scene as El Generico and Kevin Steen respectively. Owens, who is the current WWE Intercontinental Champion, has no clear direction going into WrestleMania 32 outside of a current program with The Big Show. The two could possibly renew their rivalry at AT&T Stadium. It’s also worth noting that Zayn is also scheduled to compete at NXT Takeover:Dallas to face a debuting Shinsuke Nakamura, so he would be pulling double duty at WrestleMania weekend if he were to compete at the “Showcase of the Immortals.”
Zayn is also booked for the WWE European Tour that follows WrestleMania, so it’s quite possible that NXT Takeover: Dallas would be Zayn’s swan song from the NXT brand before joining the main roster permanently. There, you happy marks? Get excited now.
