Willow Smith Was Handpicked by Karl Lagerfeld to Be Chanel’s New Ambassador

Just before Chanel’s fall 2016 runway show in Paris, the storied fashion house announced on Tuesday that Karl Lagerfeld has appointed Willow Smith as one of the brand’s newest ambassadors. The 15-year-old artist joins the likes of fellow superstars Lily-Rose Depp, Blake Lively, Elle Fanning, Kristen Stewart, and others that have received the highly sought-after opportunity, which includes sitting front row at Chanel’s fashion shows, attending Chanel events, and of course, wearing Chanel at any time.

Smith thanked Lagerfeld for the new role on Instagram by posting a photo of her and the legendary designer from Paris’ Grand Palais. “Thank you Karl Lagerfeld and the entire team at Chanel for expanding the perceptions of ‘beauty’ by picking me to be the new Chanel ambassador. I am honored. #BLACKGIRLMAGIC,” said the caption. Smith and Lagerfeld first met in 2014 during Smith’s photo shoot for V Magazine – where Lagerfeld photographed her for the publication. Whether or not this will turn into a campaign with the fashion house for Willow Smith still remains to be seen.

Smith has been busy with several gigs in the fashion world, including picking up a modeling contract with The Society Management and starring in a Marc Jacobs campaign, as well as being i-D‘s cover star.
