Atlantic Records’ artist PJ is one to watch in 2016. The singer has yet to hold back when it comes to showcasing her originality through songwriting. She’s already penned records for Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Meek Mill, and Ty Dolla Sign. And since stepping into a spotlight of her own, she’s collaborated with Hit-Boy, Lupe Fiasco, Marko Penn, and others.
With Rare in the works, PJ continues to work her magic on the EP’s noteworthy singles. The latest to hit the Net is the Fader-premiered “Gangster.” It’s an honest song that captures the buzzing artist speaking on a need for a stronger personality. “‘Gangster’ is basically my life’s story,” she told FADER. “I have a habit of always being the nice guy, biting my tongue, and dealing with a lot of B.S.”
PJ’s on a mission to get everything she’s set her mind to, and has no problem putting that into words. As serious as”Gangster’s” message is, the song’s rock-pop-influenced production, provided by D’Miles, gives it a fun, upbeat feel.
Attention has been locked in on PJ all week as she performs at SXSW. Fans were able to interact with her recently during a Facebook Q&A.
Rare is due out on April 22.
