Ad Agency Translation Teams Up with Music Producer Fafu for Phife Dawg Tribute [STREAM]

Hip-Hop has lost another legend. Earlier today, Rolling Stone confirmed the passing of A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg. At the age of 45, the MC succumbed to his longtime battle with type 1 diabetes. The world mourns the death of this legend, while at the same time celebrating all he’s contributed to hip-hop.

Advertising agency Translation, with an assist from New York music producer Fafu, is stepping in to honor the life of Phife Dawg. Their collective tribute includes a mashup of “1nce Again,” a popular song from the album Beats, Rhymes, and Life, and Kanye West’s “Real Friends.” The latter’s production easily blends with Phife’s edgy lyrics that contain the fitting opening line, “This is the year that I come in and just devastate.”

Adding to this, Translation recreated the cover art to Midnight Marauders. The LP was A Tribe Called Quest’s third album that went on to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Charts.

These efforts by Translation contribute to the outpouring of respect paid to the iconic rapper. Throughout the day, we’ve witnessed public figures, including Wale, Just Blaze, 9th Wonder, Justin Timberlake, and more, paying tribute to Phife Dawg on social media.
